This week I conserved energy by:

1. Using of glass when brushing my teeth.
2. Unplugging the appliances that are not in use.
3. Using again the water that use in washing the dishes, by watering the plants.

Insights and Reflection about El Ñino and La Ñina

  • Today I learned that the El Niño phenomenon is an abnormal weather pattern caused by the warming of the Pacific Ocean. It is characterized by extreme climatic changes - world-warming along South America, torrential rains in North America, extreme temperature rise and drought in Southeast Asia and Australia. El Niño occurs every two to seven years. While La Niña phenomenon is usually described as a cooler than average sea surface temperature of the Pacific Ocean. It phenomenon is known to occur every few years in this area and beyond, and it is known to last anywhere from a few months to as long as two years or so.
  • I will apply my learnings and insights in sharing information about this phenomenon in my everyday life, for me to become aware.
  • Learning about this phenomenon are important because if we do not know what are the effects of this phenomena how can we able to prepare ourselves in such situations like this.
  • On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in these phenomena to help others be aware and for them to be prepared on the things that might happen during this phenomena.
  • I need to know more about El Niño and La Niña because I want to know more information about this phenomenon for me to be easier to share to others what I had learned.

2. Using of a glass in brushing my teeth.
3. Unplug the television when it is standby.

Insights and Reflection about Tropical Depression

  • Today I learned that the Tropical Depression is a group of thunderstorms has come together under the right atmospheric conditions for a long enough time, they may organize into a tropical depression. Winds near the center are constantly between 20 and 34 knots (23 - 39 mph).
A tropical depression is designated when the first appearance of a lowered pressure and organized circulation in the center of the thunderstorm complex occurs. A surface pressure chart will reveal at least one closed isobar to reflect this lowering.
  • I will apply my learnings and insights in sharing information about the tropical depression in my everyday life.
  • Learnings about this phenomenon are important because we can be aware of what weather we will have and what we must do when there’s a tropical depression.
  • On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon to help other be aware of the weather we will experience and also for their safety.
  • I need to know more about tropical depression because I want to know more information about this phenomenon for me to be easier to share to others what I had learned.

Low Carbon Diet Journal (July 2-8, 2012)

This week I conserved energy by:

1. Walking instead of using tricycle when going to store near in our house.
2. Using of glass of water  in brushing my teeth.
3. Using of recyclable materials for the design of my output instead of buying new things in the store.
4. Collecting of recyclable materials like plastics and cans.
5. Turning off the television while doing my homework.

Insights and Reflection about Monsoon

  • Today I learned that the Monsoon   is a geographical phenomenon caused by cyclic air movements changing with the time of year. And I also learned that monsoon is derived from the word "mausim" which means season.
  • I will apply my learnings and insights  in sharing information about monsoon in my daily life.
  • Learnings about this phenomenon is important because if you don't know anything about them when a monsoon happens you will not know what to do.
  • On a larger scale, i will share my learnings in this phenomenon because it can help us be aware on what will the weather be and the measures to be taken when there's a monsoon.
  • I need to know more about monsoon because I want to know more information about this phenomenon for me to be easier to share to others what I had learned.

Insights and Reflection about ITCZ (Intertropical Convergence Zone)

  • Today I learned that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), known by sailors as the doldrums, is the area encircling the earth near the equator where winds originating in the northern and southern hemispheres come together.
  • I will apply my learnings and insights in sharing informations about ITCZ and having knowledge about its relationship on our weather.
  • Learnings about this phenomenon is important because we can know the possible cause of a rainy or dry weather in a certain place.
  • On a larger scale, I will share my learnings in this phenomenon because it can help us be aware of weather we’re going to have and the things we should do when there’s a nearby ITCZ.
  • I want to know more about how big is the effect of ITCZ on our weather.
